Do you experience challenges in your body?  Does your back feel tight?  Do you struggle with illness?  Everyone’s body is unique.  In this series you will experience Hatha Yoga classes that bring you into balance by focusing on the body, mind and breath.  Together we will create more strength, flexibility, and balance in the body by using the science of yoga (postures, breath, movement and concentration).  We guide the body to come back to its natural state of ease and the mind into a state of serenity.

Studies show that Hatha Yoga strengthens the nervous system, immune system, creates an alkaline (disease free) environment, and cleanses the organs and glands (among other things).  Each class will be tailored to who attends, and to promoting health and vitality.

You Don't Need to be flexible to do yoga - You become flexible from doing yoga!!

There have been more times than I can count that I have had a conversation about yoga begin like this:  “Oh, you’re a yoga instructor?  I can’t do Yoga, I am not flexible enough”, or “I tried once and I am not good at it.”  These are the most common misconceptions about the practice of Yoga.

The physical practice of Yoga (Hatha) is about bringing the body to a balanced state of flexibility, strength, and physical balance.  We practice Yoga to become more flexible and it works!  A flexible body allows the systems to function more efficiently and in turn keeps your organs healthy, the mind calm, the body free of disease and feeling energized and vitalized!  It is impossible to be “not good at it”-isn’t that great news!  It is non-competitive; you begin wherever you are and the practice morphs and changes with you.  Simply being there to practice makes you good at it.

There are several notions of what the practice entails or how it “should” be and I must say, after 10 years of practice, I have disproven most of them.  It certainly does not always look like the woman on the magazine cover (I cannot put my leg behind my head!) or the guy standing on his head for an hour.  It is personal and all about you!

Yoga can be practiced at any stage of life and through any changes we face (back tension, sore/tight muscles, bigger bodies, even disease and cancer). More research is being released on the effects of yoga on curing and preventing illness and disease and keeping the brain healthy.

We invite you to come try a class, see for yourself.  All there is to do is breathe, come in with an open mind, open heart and be there for yourself.  Accepting where we are first is the only way we can make any changes. The yoga practice facilitates this acceptance and facilitates major change, whether it physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual.

Yoga meets you where you are and takes the journey with you from there.

About the Presenter:

After receiving a Masters degree from Columbia Teachers college, and working with children with autism for years, Carlee felt something was still missing from her life.  In 2000 she began practicing yoga primarily at Integral Yoga Institute in New York City.  Soon after, she received her 270-hour teaching certificate in Asana (postures) and Pranayama (breath work) through Integral Yoga under the direct supervision of Swami Ramananda (president, Integral Yoga New York City). In the meantime, Carlee attended many workshops on various topics of Yoga: Yoga for the Special Child, Hip Opening I & II, Meditation I & II, Everyday Sadhana (spiritual practice), Chakra Opening, Mantra (sacred sound) Repetition, Kirtan (chanting), Hatha as a Creative Source, Laughter Meditation, Dharma, Mudras (energy seals), Nutrition/Ayurveda, Ashtangha, Anusara, Science of Breathing, and she continues to further her study.

“Yoga has many facets that contribute to a peaceful, happy, healthy life. Yoga has transformed my life on many levels and I continue to  study meditation and integration into life.  My favorite thing is sharing this with others.“

Carlee has worked with children with disabilities and typical children in private and group settings.  Working with organizations such as Karmapalooza and Universal Lightworkers Association has been a true blessing.

Carlee received the name Kalyani from Swami Ramananda and it represents that place inside of each of us that feels so blessed, fortunate, and blissful.  May all beings feel this Bliss.
