Our perception is that we have so much to do. We are busy, busy, busy. We tell ourselves that there aren’t enough hours in the day. We think about how we will never get everything done. We wonder when we will get that extra time to sit, read a book, go out to play with friends, garden, or just sip a cup of tea with a friend. We believe that there is so much to do and so little time to do it all in. Is it true that we just have so much to do and not enough time or does it appear that way because that is what we believe and where our attention is focused?

Recently, it has come to my awareness that the more we do, the more we have to do and the less we do, the less we have to do. One may need to chew on that for awhile to truly integrate it into consciousness. But, ya know, it is the truth. Once we slow it all down and really prioritize what is important to accomplish, things begin to shift. The most significant shift in one’s perception of time happens once we change our minds. What we focus on is what we create. If we are constantly focusing on how we just don’t have enough time that is what we create. Once we change our minds and what we believe, everything shifts. All of a sudden, we have plenty of time.

Try out this exercise. Observe time. Put your attention and consciousness on observing time. And, now I am pretty sure you are thinking . . . what is she talking about? How can one observe time? When we make it our intention to observe time it automatically begins the process of observation because of our intent. Pay attention to your breath, the inbreath and outbreath, as the intention is established. Stop watching the clock so closely and look at the clock only once in awhile. It is truly amazing to use this technique because it stretches time. I recommend giving this a try when you have to make it to a destination by a specific time and you think you will not arrive on time. It works like magic.

Along with observation of time, a tried and true technique for achieving all the many splendid things we must do is to write out the good old “things to do list.” Begin each day by establishing a list of things you really want to accomplish. This makes a huge difference in one’s ability to release the incessant mind chatter that might bring one’s attention back to the old thoughtform: “so much to do, so little time.” Instead, once the many items are written down on a list, the intention of accomplishing them has been more firmly established and possible. The focus is maintained on what will be done instead of how much one has to accomplish. The power of the written word combined with intention brings focus, clarity, and a self-assured calmness to do what needs to be done.

To add a spiritual twist to this list, let’s assume that you have help from the spiritual realm in the form of a Guide or an Administrative Angel that is in charge of keeping you on task and focused. Ask your Administrative Angel/Guide to guide your day with ease, divine timing, and grace. This angel is so real, that if you forget your list somewhere, you somehow remember everything on it, as if you had someone whispering what you need to do next into your ear! Try it, it really works. It also is relaxing and calming to have that faith that you are not alone and that you do have help around you all the time. Using faith and spiritual practice in our daily life brings a higher level of consciousness and love to all that we do in what we consider the mundane world.

There are pieces of the “things to do list” that we sometimes forget. The pieces of the list that we often forget to include are the pleasurable things. Here are some suggestions of things to add to the list: get a massage, have a phone visit with a friend, get a manicure and pedicure, spend more time with your animals, take a walk, go to the beach, sit in a bubble bath, go to a sporting event, get tickets for a concert, go for a swim, do some gentle gardening, take a yoga or Tai Chi class, have dinner with your parents or a relative . . . and the list of happy things to do continues on the basis of our own individual interests. Remember what brings you joy and be sure to include that on your list of things to do because there is a much greater chance that they will in fact be accomplished.

May we all remember what we are here to do. May we all remember how to get them done. May we all remember that we have plenty of time. May we remember that whatever we focus our attention on is what we create in our life and our personal world.

      Happy creating!
