Transitions
by Margaret Ann LemboTransitions are a passage from one state, position, stage or subject to another. It is a very simple statement yet when change and transition are in process it does not always feel very simple, stable or even very comfortable. Yet, that is life. Pure and truthful, we are constantly in transition. There are times when the transition is much greater or dramatic than at other times. Yet daily we experience it. It is the only real constant in our lives when we really stop to think about it.
We go from a sleeping state to a waking state, from sitting to standing, from walking to sitting, from laughing to crying, from talking to silence and on and on and on. Each and every one of these states can occur consciously or unconsciously. You know, sleeping or awake. When we choose to live our lives consciously, i.e. awake, the bigger transitions are not quite as dramatic or difficult. So, how do we begin to really deal with transitions that are bigger or appear bigger? Like the side view mirror, images may appear larger than they really are! Some transitions truly do feel larger than life!
I believe that if we practice self-observation and inward focus, life becomes much easier. So often, we choose to give a lot of attention to others lives, their mistakes and such. If we took that same amount of time, attention and energy and focused it on our own thoughts, actions and heart’s desires, then life would flow easier and provide us with constant opportunities to act in accordance with our Divine Mission. To start this process, we can begin to pay attention to our own inner thoughts and feelings. This requires silence, inner reflection and the ability to see oneself honestly without self-judgment. Meditation can be the answer to so many questions and challenges in our lives. If you find that you have a hard time focusing and getting still enough, then gift yourself with attending a group meditation. You might also try a guided meditation tape as an avenue to quiet yourself long enough to even hear yourself think and feel what is in your own heart and know your own truth.
As we grow, we allow ourselves to feel our feelings and hear our own thoughts going on in our minds over and over again. This allows us an opportunity to be mindful of the feelings of others with our thoughts, words and actions. Yes, even our thoughts about others affect their life, energy field and their ease in life. The more that we consciously have good thoughts and feelings for all beings, then automatically it follows that our own life flows better and better every day in every way. These good thoughts, feelings and actions must first start with ourselves. Our own self-talk and feelings about our body image, looks, and even how smart we are affects the greater good. We are actually doing the world a great service by improving our self-esteem. Think about that please!
The celebration of larger life transitions or rites of passage is one avenue to consciously connect with going from one state to another. Some examples are weddings, baby showers, retirement parties, house warming parties and funerals. There are many other transitions in our lives for which we may want to consciously create a ritual. Some of these might include divorce, moving in with a significant other, first moontime and menopause, changing jobs, becoming a grandparent and so many more. I believe that if we become very conscious of our transitions and changes and find a way to honor, celebrate or connect with that transition, it may ease the ‘shock’ of the change. This is another way to be conscious of life and celebrate life in its many phases. Consider celebrating or honoring yourself on the smaller achievements and transitions as well. There is always a reason to celebrate life, living and being on this glorious planet.
May we always see the good in others and ourselves. May we stop long enough to feel and hear our own heart. May we bless and honor ourselves through the celebration of life and all the great changes it offers. May we truly see, feel and know all the beauty in and around us all!
