Journaling is a tool that we often forget about. Many of us have journaled our thoughts and feelings when we were younger. Remember the sacred Diary? When I was in grade school and high school, I kept a diary. The first one I had was a little blue leather (or was it vinyl?) book with a page for each day and a little lock to keep it secret. That’s one of the nice things about writing in a diary or journal. Journaling is a place where we can talk with our Higher Self, God, our angels and guides about our deepest feelings. Whether they are bright and happy or dark and sad, no one will judge what is written in a journal. We can write discrete entries that no one else will read.

Writing to God or your Higher Self about how you are feeling will help.  We might be surprised that when we journal, inspiration comes, as if God or the Higher Self answers or responds to what is being written. Some people have given their diary a name. One of the most famous diaries is that of Anne Frank. She named her diary “Kitty.” Anne was given her diary when she was 13 years old. She made entries for approximately 2 years. In this case, someone did read the diary. The Diary of Anne Frank eventually became one of the world’s most read books. It provided an intimate glimpse into the daily life of a young girl under Nazi occupation. This journal or diary became a tool for us all to learn and have compassion or empathy for those who experienced it first hand. It is unlikely that our personal journals will become published unless it is our personal intent to make it so. So, write freely. Allow your thoughts to be released onto the paper or the computer screen before you.

When we were younger, we would start out our entry as; “Dear Diary” where today we can address those entries to whomever we want to express ourselves to in the moment. Today, many people are blogging their thoughts and feelings online for the entire world to read. A blog is an online journal or a weblog. Here is a definition from an internet site called Wikipedia, A Free Encyclopedia. “A blog is a website for which an individual or a group frequently generates text, photographs, video or audio files, and/or links, typically (but not always) on a daily basis. The term is a shortened form of weblog. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called "blogging". Individual articles on a blog are called "blog posts," "posts," or "entries". The person who posts these entries is called a "blogger".” Isn’t it interesting how new words are created? And blogging certainly takes the charge away from siblings stealing their sister’s diary to embarrass and humiliate.

Let’s go back to the world of no one reading our journal. Let’s change the terminology of discrete private journaling and rename it Sacred Journaling. Many of us have used this tool of Sacred Journaling when we write a letter to someone but never send the letter. Whether it is a letter to our mother, father, sister, friend, boyfriend, co-worker or spouse, we find relief in expressing our thoughts in writing, even if the person we would like to say those things to never receives the letter. There are no limits to what is possible. There is so much relief found in writing down our thoughts and feelings.

Some of us may find it hard to express ourselves verbally to another. Use the journal as an avenue to express what needs to be said or what we wish we could say to someone. It provides a place to script our conversation. Scripting is a tool, where we can literally write a script of what we will say to another and even imagine how they might respond and script responses back to those responses. It is often used in business when preparing to make a big presentation, or by human resource people when preparing to meet with employees. Scripting can be used to enhance communication in any kind of relationship. It opens us up to being more confident to speak our truth with love and balance instead of blurting out things that we wish we hadn’t said. It is also a good tool to assist us in being more conscious in our communication and our relationships. Yes, let’s remember that thought of consciousness in relationships.

What we write, think, say or feel is energetically being experienced by all. When we write our thoughts and feelings, we allow that pent up energy to be expressed. The release may provide a balance in our mental, physical and emotionally bodies. The Sacred Journal becomes a psychologist of sorts. It becomes a sacred place that we can go to reveal how we are feeling and the Sacred Journal doesn’t hold any judgment about those feelings. It becomes a place to practice expressing our feelings. Truth and thoughtfulness in communication makes for much healthier relationships. If we don’t know how to do that, then practicing in a journal is a good start.

Our Sacred Journal is not only a place to release pent up feelings and thoughts. It is a Sacred Space to manifest our heart’s desires. Once we are able to get the things that challenge us out of the way by becoming clear on what is really bothering us, we open up to what we really do want. As we communicate well with ourselves, we become clearer on focusing on the positive of the blessings we have in our lives, what is good and what we want more of in our lives. Once we turn the corner into the world of what we do want, instead of what we don’t want, we can use the Sacred Journal as a place to script, imagine and create. Our imagination is our key to our future. What we can imagine and what we believe is what becomes manifest. The Sacred Journal is a place where we can fantasize or create our reality. It’s ok to write it down. Writing things down make them a more solid reality. It is the start. Create the plan or blueprint on paper and watch it become reality.

Creating a Sacred Journal is easy. Go to your favorite bookstore, The Crystal Garden, and buy a journal. There are many to choose from. Get your favorite pen. Sit down and start writing about anything at all. It can be done anywhere and anytime. Write whatever you want whenever you want. It is that simple. Relax and let it flow.

May we all find the ways that we can express ourselves for our Highest Good.

Happy Journaling,

Margaret Ann Lembo
