Intent
Intent is powerful. And so is intention as well as attention. Yes, this even includes the first intention, second intention as well as the first attention and second attention. Will this all make sense? Perhaps by the time I am done writing and you are done reading, it will! (For those of you who have studied Guderjieff, Ouspensky, Carlos Castenada and Toltec spiritual teachings, you already know where I am going with this.) Let’s do the dictionary thing here because it is well worth it. Ready?
“In-tent n. 1. That which is intended; aim; purpose. 2. The state of mind operative at the time of an action. Adj. 1. firmly fixed; concentrated. 2. Having the attention applied; engrossed. 3. Having the mind fastened upon some purpose.
In-ten-tion n. 1. A plan of action; a design. 2. An aim that guides action; an object. Synonyms: intention, intent, purpose, object, goal, end, aim, objective. These nouns refer to what one hopes to achieve or attain. Intention signifies a course of action that one proposes to follow. Intent, often a legal term, more strongly implies a fixed course pursued deliberately, and purpose adds to this idea of resolution or determination to carry out what one proposes. Object and goal are sometimes interchangeable in referring to the proposed attainment. Object, however, often implies something clear cut and attainable by practical means and goal something more idealistic or remote. End suggests an ultimate attainment, viewed from long range and aim, the direction one’s efforts take in pursuit of the end. Objective refers to an end or goal with the implication that it can be reached.
At-ten-tion n. 1. Concentration of the mental powers upon an object, a close or careful observing or listening. 2. The ability or power to concentrate mentally. 3. Observant consideration; notice. 4. Consideration or courtesy. 5. An act of courtesy, consideration, or gallantry indicating romantic interest.”

Now for the spiritual application. Please
notice the italicized words and feel free to constantly refer back to the
definitions to truly receive the intention of this article as well as to
keep your attention focused. Having firmly established a clear definition
of what these words mean, let’s apply it. Put very simply, once we have a clear
intention and a focused attention on our spiritual life, all else
falls into place.
For example, it is my first intention that all that I
say and do comes from Divine Love. In order to achieve that, I keep my first
attention on Divine Love. This shows up within The Crystal Garden, because
my intention is that all that enter its doors feel Love, Light and
Well-Being. I hear and see the results of my intention daily. I hear the
audible sighs of relief as people enter. I see how well behaved and calm the
children are when they are at the store as well as hear the comments of the
parent’s amazed at their children’s good behavior compared to their behavior in
other stores. (Children are great at the store also because they are very
welcome to come play here and they can feel that intention as well the
attention that we give them.) I hear the results from the various people who
now have better lives because they shop, visit, relax, and attend classes at The
Crystal Garden. OK, I know this sounds like a commercial, but it’s not. My
intention is to make a point, to use an example and well, perhaps my
second intention is actually focused on drawing your second attention
to how great The Crystal Garden is. Get it?
The difference between going through life haphazardly,
scattered with no focus or intent, is significant in comparison to one
who is focused on being Love, acting with Love and keeping the
attention on Love. It shows up in one’s life when one walks on the planet in
a state of Gratitude for all the goodness there is versus one who walks on the
planet focused on all the negative things that have happened or will
happen to them! Wow! It is a really huge difference. It creates a state of Grace
around you and life becomes Magical! Just try it. It’s all in your mind
and your intention and your attention.
Take a moment right now and ask yourself, “Where is my
attention? What am I focused on for most of my days and nights?” And
then ask yourself, “What is my intent?” These questions will assist you
in creating a place of self-observation. Self-observation is a very good tool
for creating attention and intention. The key to achieving this
goal is to constantly observe your thoughts, words and actions without judging
yourself. If you observe yourself acting outside of your intent, all you
have to do is take a deep breath and re-focus your attention on Love.
So, here is your mission should you choose to accept it. Try
this for just one day or even for half a day. Make it your intention to
constantly keep your mind focused on Love. Keep your focus on your
heart center. Ask for an attitude of gratitude. Ask for the Grace of God to be
prevalent in your life. After you try this for one day, and I mean really
maintaining a true focused intent and attention, I believe you will want
to walk around this way EVERY DAY.
May the intention of all beings be focused on Love and may we all live a happy, harmonious life.
Much Love and Many Blessings,
Margaret Ann Lembo
