Summer Clam Digging or Reading
by Margaret Lembo
I found myself reminiscing about the carefree days of my childhood summer vacations. During the last days of school for the given year, the teacher would provide us with the Summer Book Reading List. I would go off to the Brooklyn Public Library to pick up my big pile of books to bring to the beach house in Breezy Point.
My summers were carefree and fun. I spent my days in my bathing suit walking the sand dunes, body surfing the waves, collecting hermit crabs, climbing the rock jetty to the lighthouse and clam digging.
By the time the 4th of July came around I needed to be sure to buckle down and start my reading. I always have enjoyed reading even as a child, so this wasnt too difficult a chore. Reading on the deck or in my bed, I could always hear the lapping of the waves on the shore. Great memories and great books.
Now as an adult, I still consider reading one of my favorite activities. I thought I would share some ideas on books Ive read that you might want to consider for your Summer Book Reading List.
Happy Summer Time to You All!
