An evergreen, shrubby, perennial herb up to 80cm high with a woody base, soft, silver, oval leaves and a mass of deep blue or violet flowers. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried leaves. A so-called oleo resin is also produced from the exhausted plant material. Sage or common sage is a herb of ancient repute, valued as a culinary and medicinal plant, it was called a sacred herb by the Romans. It was believed to strengthen the senses and the memory, and helpful for inflammations of the mouth, tongue, and throat.

Origin:	Yugoslavia and Dalmatian.
Fragrance:	Clear, herbal and sharp.
Therapeutic Properties:	Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobal, anti-oxidant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, hypotensive, insecticide, stomachic, laxative, tonic.
Uses:	Calming, tiredness, depression and grief, aids memory, regulates the menstrual cycle, aid conception. good for menopausal problems and excessive sweating vaginal thrush, tonic for the liver and kidney, helps with water retention ulcers, gingivitis, colds, catarrh, bronchitis an bacterial infection.
Blends Well with:	Rosemary, rosewood, hyssop, lavender, lemon, and other citrus oils.
Cautions: Oral toxin (due to thujone). Arbortifacient; avoid in pregnancy. Avoid in epilepsy. Contraindicated in cases of high blood pressure.
