This tall, featherlike Mediterranean herb is often referred to as "licorice" plant or anise because it tastes and smells so much like licorice. A clear essential oil is distilled from the seed.

Cautions: Should not be used by epileptics or during pregnancy. Do not use on children under the age of 6 (contains melanthine which is toxic to small children) or children who have not reach puberty. It can overexcite the nervous system, use fennel oil carefully. It has estrogen like properties, so use cautiously if you have estrogen-associated problems.. Non-irritant, relatively non-toxic, narcotic in large doses. Use in moderation
