Revered by ancient civilizations, particularly in the Middle East. The Romans hailed it as an aphrodisiac! The Greek recognize its calmative influence on the digestive tract. In India the seed are chewed to sweeten the breath.  Having several uses over the past two or so thousand years, aiding in digestion as a liquor has been it's primary uses. It is closely related to caraway, dill and fennel.

Botanical Name: Pimpinella anisum
Origin: Antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic, expectorant, galactagogue, stimulant, stomachic.
Fragrance: Pungent, liquorice-like, very warming. Rich and sweet.
Therapeutic Properties:

Analgesic,  anti-depressant, antimicrobal, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, carminative,  cordial, cytophylactic, diuretic, deodorant, insecticide, nervine, parasticide, sedative, stimulant, sudorific, tonic, vermifuge, vulnerary.

Uses:

Anise seed is used to ease muscular aches and pains of over-exertion and rheumatism, expectorant for bronchitis, coughs, and colds and to settle stomach cramps, indigestion, and flatulence. Could invigorate a tired mind. Sexual problems such as impotence and frigidity may be helped the Romans though so anyway!

Blends Well with: Bay, Caraway, Cedarwood, Dill, Fennel, Rosewood,  Rose, Lavender, Pine, and Orange Mandarin
Cautions:  Use in moderation; large doses can be narcotic. In extreme cases possibility of circulatory problems and cerebral congestion. Do not use if pregnant.
